The beauty of what has become termed the traditional mass is surpassed only by its reverence towards the Almighty God. It is filled with sounds, smells, and motions that have evolved over the centuries, through Divine assistance and the work of some of the greatest minds in Christendom, that serve not only to render due honor to God, but to teach the faithful. Through the mass, we learn the faith, and the faithful grow in their spiritual journey. It is not the language that we worship, but the Truth.

WHY USE LATIN?

1. Latin is the traditional universal language of the Western church. In this was,
a common church language helps to unite all Christian peoples within the Western church.

2. Latin has a long history in the Anglican Church. Latin was used in the Anglican Church before the political break with Rome AND afterwards until Elizabeth I.

3. There is a large compendium of church music, the beauty of which has stood the test of time. This is, of course, Gregorian Chant. Much of this was specifically written for the Latin language. Sometimes musical beauty can be lost in language translation.

4. Even casual familiarity with Latin helps English speakers understand their own language better. So, you're doing your parishioners a favor!

5. Do you need any more reasons?

The Missale Anglicanum is available in leather or bonded leather or casewrap. Priests should contact the
Council of the Clergy here for the leather or bonded leather version, or visit the bookstore for the casewrap version.
