Holy Matrimony

RETURN TO THE SACRAMENTS PAGE

Marriage is one of the most joyous sacraments, yet is not a sacrament to be taken lightly. It is the only sacrament performed by those who are receiving it, i.e., the couple. The priest performs the blessing of the Church, and the wedding can (and should) be followed by a Nuptial Mass in which the protection and guidance of God upon the newlywed couple is invoked.

Marriage requires a particular amount of preparation, particularly in this age of moral relativism, selfishness, and materialism. Usually 6 months of pre-marital counseling is the minimum required. Couples who choose to commit and live out their vocation as married people are far more successful than those who take it lightly or focus on the ceremony.
