The coat of arms of Archbishop Rutherford Johnson consist of His Grace's own arms (the right half as you are looking at the shield) and the arms of the Archdiocese of the Southwest (the left half as you are looking at the shield). On top of the shield is a crowned mitre, the mitre being one of the traditional heraldic symbols of a bishop. Crossed in saltire behind the shield are the temporal and spiritual symbols of jurisdictional sovereignty - the key and the sword of justice. Pendant below the shield is the Metropolitan symbol, the pallium. His Grace's motto is that of his family, "Honos Ministerium Fides," i.e., "Honor, Service, and Loyalty."
